You have been a Dynamics NAV developer for quite a while. And probably it hasn’t gone by unnoticed that coding is moving in a whole new direction.: extension development. Extending standard functionality without modifying the standard code. C/SIDE development as you have known it for so long is going to retire and make place for a state of the art development in VSCode. In this workshop you will learn all the basics about customizing Dynamics 365 Business Central using VSCode and the AL language.

Prerequisites: bring your own laptop with the latest version of Dynamics 365 Business Central installed on it. You might use a VM and/or docker to achieve this.

Luc van Vugt
From 1999 up to 2003 I have been educating dozens of NAV developers in the Netherlands at Navision Software NL, based on courseware developed by myself. After the MS take-over had been fully established I joined the MS dynamics localization team (GDL) in 2003 as a tester. I was acting project lead for our first new release, i.e. NAV 4.0 (at that time still called MS Business Solution-Navision). For 6 years I was involved with all successive releases of NAV to the (West) European market up till NAV 2009 SP1, when I had to leave MS as part of the humongous 2009 lay-offs. As off September 1st, 2009, I joined Imtech ICT Dynamics Solutions as Sr. Technical Consultant, where I was (1) leading product development as Product Manager, (2) coaching dev teams at other Dynamics partners, (3) co-leading the Imtech ICT Dynamics Competence Center (IIDSS), and (4) involved in Imtech ICT's international ERP development. Simultaneously I started blogging about Dynamics NAV on dynamicsuser.net: www.fluxxus.nl. Together with Mark Brummel and Arend-Jan Kauffmann I am one of the founders of the Dutch Dynamics Community (dutchdynamics.net) that came to live fall 2010 and has since then been successfully organizing local events regarding the Microsoft Dynamics products. In January 2013 I joined the major Dutch schoolbooks reseller Van Dijk Educatie as Quality Assurance Lead and NAV Developer. Next to being involved in day-to-day development I introduced the use of Team Foundation Server as the main tool for Source Code Management and Planning.
